Who We Are - Founders and The Directors
John Hardy. Is a former merchant navy captain who later
became chairman and chief executive of an international group of business
development companies. With the active help of his wife Sue, a graphic
designer, John Hardy initiated The Tarka Foundation in 2002 and was its
first chairman until his retirement in April 2008.
Peter Jollands. Director; is a partner in The Hallsannery Centre which specialises in sustainability and environmental education. Peter Jollands has been awarded a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship to investigate environmental education among UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in USA and Canada. He is engaged in developing new concepts for Biosphere sustainability.
Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer. Director; is the Liberal Democrats' spokesperson on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the House of Lords. Nominated a Life Peer in 1998 for her contribution to community governance, she takes particular interests in food policy, marine issues, renewable energy and trade justice. Sue Miller is a member of the House of Lords European sub committee dealing with agriculture and the environment and vice president of the Council for National Parks.
Nick Harvey MP. Director; is the MP for North Devon where The Tarka Foundation was first established. Having served successively as spokesperson on Transport, Trade & Industry, Health, and Culture Media & Sport he also has valuable skills gained during his former career in the City, working with a financial marketing consultancy. He is presently serving as Shadow Defence Secretary.
